30th September:

North Uist: 1st winter Citrine Wagtail on the beach at Aird an Runair, Balranald today. Great Spotted Woodpecker at Langass. A 2 hour sea-watch from Griminish Point produced: 1 Sooty Shearwater, 7 Great Skua, 1 Arctic Skua, 3 Great Northern Divers and a Red-throated Diver.

29th September:

South Uist: 5 pale-bellied Brent Geese off Balgarva. Juvenile American Golden Plover at North Boisdale. Slavonian Grebe and juvenile Arctic Tern on Loch Stilligarry.

28th September:

North Uist: a sea-watch from Griminish Point (8:10 - 11:10) produced a Leach's Petrel, a Pomarine Skua, Arctic Skua, 2 Great Skuas, 2 juvenile Arctic Terns, 7 Great Northern Divers, 4 Red-throated Divers, 5 Common Scoter, 1 Scaup, 35 Tufted Duck and 10 Wigeon.

South Uist: 3 Curlew Sandpipers, 2 Black-tailed Godwits and a pale-bellied Brent Goose on the South Ford off Hebridean Jewellery. Black-tailed Godwit on Loch an-t'Saile. House Martin over Askernish.

27th September:

Lewis: Treecreeper (familiaris) near Port of Ness.

North Uist: Female Snowy Owl at Aird an Runair and 750+ pale-bellied Brent Geese south passed there between 10:50 and 12:15.

South Uist: Pied Flycatcher and House Martin at South Glendale. Lesser Whitethroat at Askernish this afternoon.

Barra: Treecreeper (familiaris) at North Bay, plus Grey Wagtail. Pied Flycatcher, Willow Warbler, Chiffchaff, female Blackcap and 3 Garden Warblers at Brehvig. Garden Warbler at Leinis and also at Ardmor Plantation. 2 Whinchat on Vatersay. Juvenile Common Tern and juvenile Arctic Tern between Ardmor ferry terminal and the airport.

26th September:

North Uist: Snowy Owl at Aird an Runair, Balranald.

Benbecula: juvenile American Golden Plover at Torlum.

South Uist: juvenile Curlew Sandpiper at Stoneybridge and off Hebridean Jewellery. Pale-bellied Brent Goose at north end of Loch Bee. Pied Flycatcher and Garden Warbler at Loch Eynort. Pied Flycatcher at South Glendale.

25th September:

Lewis: late news of a Turtle Dove on the A858 at Breasclete on Tuesday 23rd.

St. Kilda: Yellow-browed Warbler seen on Hirta yesterday.

Benbecula: juvenile American Golden Plover at Torlum today. 3 Black-tailed Godwits over Loch Mor.

South Uist: Pied Flycatcher at South Glendale.

24th September:

North Uist: an immature Great Spotted Woodpecker is at Langass (it has been in the area since at least Sunday 21st). Also 3 Grey Wagtails there.

South Uist: Pied Flycatcher still in South Glendale.

22nd September:

South Uist: Redwing at Howbeg. Ruff on Bornish machair. Pied Flycatcher still at South Glendale.

Insects: Common Blue butterfly on Eriskay.

Harris: Common Rosefinch at Horgabost. Male Surf Scoter in the Sound of Taransay. Willow Warbler and Grey Wagtail at Luskentyre.

Benbecula: Sand Martin at Coot Loch

South Uist: 1st w Wilson's Phalarope at Balgarva, also Green Sandpiper and 6 Curlew Sandpipers. Pectoral Sandpiper at south-west end of Loch Bee. Blackcap and Pied Flycatcher in South Glendale. Spotted Flycatcher and 5 Goldcrests Bornish

Barra: male Black-headed Bunting at Kentangaval, just west of Castle Bay. 8 Goldcrests, Chiffchaff and Spotted Flycatcher at Ardmhor. 6 Goldcrests and Whinchat at North Bay. 2 Common Redpoll and a Tree Pipit Castle Bay. Redstart Gleann. 5 Goldcrests, 1 Pied Flycatcher and 2 Willow Warblers Brevig. Lapland Bunting at Allasdale. Juvenile Little Stint at Traigh Mhor.

20th September

Lewis: Slavonian Grebe on Loch Branahuie. 14 Whooper Swans on Loch Tiumpan.

South Uist: Buff-breasted Sandpiper and an adult Little Stint at Rubha Ardvule. Pied Flycatcher at South Glendale. Pectoral Sandpiper at Loch Bee.

St Kilda: Pectoral Sandpiper.

Insects: Speckled Wood, Large White and Common Hawker at Castle Grounds, Stornoway.

Other: Basking Shark off Tiumpan Head in the late afternoon.

19th September

St Kilda: Buff-bellied Pipit rubescens and a Snowy Owl.

South Uist: Buff-breasted Sandpiper Rubha Ardvule. Pied flycatcher and Whinchat at South Glendale. Juvenile Pectoral Sandpiper Loch Bee.

Insects: Speckled Wood and Large White - Castle Grounds, Stornoway

Cetaceans: Pilot Whale live stranding at NW of Berneray.

17th September

Benbecula: Great Spotted woodpecker at Torlum.

South Uist: Juvenile Buff-breasted Sandpiper and 3 Curlew Sandpipers at Rubha Ardvule.

Insects: Speckled wood - Marybank, Stornoway.

16th September

South Uist: 7 Curlew Sandpipers and a Grey Phalarope at Rubha Ardvule. Curlew Sandpiper and a Buff-breasted Sandpiper at Loch Bee.

15th September:

Harris: Surf Scoter reported from the Sound of Taransay.

Benbecula: 2 Sand Martin and 50+ Swallows feeding over Coot Loch. Willow Warbler at Stinky Bay.

South Uist: Stilt Sandpiper still in the north bay at Ardvule. Also 7 Curlew Sandpipers and a Grey Phalarope present. Goldcrest, Sedge Warbler and Ruff at Drimsdale. 4 Ruff on the Range. 22+ Swallows at Stoneybridge.

Insects: Convolvulus Hawkmoth caught today on a house wall at Druim Dubh near Paiblesgarry.

14th September:

Lewis: Curlew Sandpiper, Pied Flycatcher and Willow Warbler at Brue. 5 Willow Warblers Shawbost. Swift and 3 Willow Warblers Bragar. Ringtail Hen Harrier at Loch na Muilne, Arnol. 3 Curlew Sandpiper and a Goosander at Tong.

North Uist: Female Snowy Owl at Aird an Runair. Pair of Whooper Swans still have 6 cygnets but have moved onto Loch nam Feithean. Swift south over Griminish.

South Uist: juvenile Stilt Sandpiper at Ardvule. 7 Curlew Sandpipers and a Grey Phalarope there too. Pied Flycatcher, Whitethroat, Goldcrest and Willow Warbler at South Glendale. Swift over Bornish machair. Buff-breasted Sandpiper on Eochar machair near Kilaulay green barn plus 5 Ruff. Curlew Sandpiper North Bay plus 2 on the South Ford. Brent Goose also on the South Ford.

13th September:

St. Kilda: Barred Warbler, Marsh Warbler and several Reed Warblers on Hirta today.

South Uist: Garden Warbler, Blackcap, Willow Warbler and 2 Goldcrests in Acarsaid Valley, Eriskay. Whinchat at Ludaig and Pied Flycatcher in South Glendale, this evening. Grey Wagtail Allt Volagir.

Insects: Large Wainscot and Silver Y trapped at Drimsdale, South Uist last night.

Cetaceans: Minke Whale moving south passed entrance to Lochmaddy bay.

12th September:

Lewis: Carrion Crow in the hospital car park in Stornoway. 2 Ruff and 6 Black-tailed Godwitson the estuary opposite Cross Street, Stornoway. Grey Wagtail Sand Street.

South Uist: Buff-breasted Sandpiper and 3 Ruff at Drimsdale; also Willow Warbler here. Spotted Flycatcher at Howbeag.

Insects: Black Darter, Highland Darter and Common Hawker dragonflies still on the wing in South Uist today.

11th September:

Lewis: Glaucous Gull at Loch Barvas.

Harris: Ruff at Scarista.

Benbecula: 4 Ruff and 5 Black-tailed Godwits in recently cut fields just west of Loch Mor. Ruff at Torlum.

South Uist: 2 Ruff on Eochar machair. 9 Brent Geese at North Bay. 187 Grey Plover off Hebridean Jewellery. Juvenile Little Stint in the south bay at Ardvule today (and yesterday).

10th September:

South Uist: Leach's Petrel off Ardvule this morning. Female Pintail at Ardivachar and Sooty Shearwater off-shore there.

9th September:

Benbecula: female Pintail on Coot Loch. 3 juvenile male Ruff and 5 Black-tailed Godwits just west of Loch Mor.

South Uist: A single Swift was seen heading south over Garynamonie machair this morning.

8th September:

North Uist: female Snowy Owl at Aird an Runair, Balranald.

Late News: 1ts winter Citrine Wagtails were reported yesterday from both St. Kilda and Carnan, South Uist (no sign this morning).

7th September:

Lewis: Lesser Whitethroat, Chiffchaff and 2 Willow Warblers Port of Ness. Ruff at Ness Social Club.

Benbecula: 6 Black-tailed Godwits and a Ruff on Loch Mor.

Bottle-nosed Dolphins off the Butt of Lewis.

6th September:

South Uist: juvenile Little Stint on the South Ford. 2 Brent Geese at the north end of Loch Bee.

Barra: Garden Warbler and Whitethroat on Barra plus 34 Black-throated Divers in the Sound of Barra.

5th September:

Lewis: Barred Warbler, Lesser Whitethroat and 2 Garden Warblers in Port of Ness.

4th September:

St. Kilda: A Kestrel, 2 House Martins and a few Willow Warblers in Hirta today.

Lewis: juvenile Sabine's Gull and 2 Sooty Shearwaters passed Tiumpan Head.

North Uist: Lapland Bunting and 2 Gadwall on Baleshare. 4 Gadwall on Loch na Faoileige, Carnach.

South Uist: 18 Black-tailed Godwits at Peninerine.

3rd September:

Lewis: Osprey Loch Barvas. Note that this is a young bird that was ringed this year in Forres. The migration route can be followed at: http://www.roydennis.org/Moray%2084131.htm

St. Kilda: Baird's Sandpiper, 2 Reed Warblers and a Garden Warbler in Hirta today.

North Uist: female Snowy Owl roosting at Aird an Runair.

South Uist: Green Sandpiper again this morning on Loch an Eilein, Drimsdale - flew off towards Loch Stilligarry.

Insects: Butterflies in South Uist today include Green-veined White, Red Admiral (Drimsdale), Painted Lady (Eochar machair) and Common Blue (Grogarry).

2nd September:

Lewis: Osprey reported from Lewis (Bird Guides) - no site given.

North Uist: female Snowy Owl Aird an Runair, Balranald.

Benbecula: Sand Martin over Torlum.

South Uist: 40+ Black-tailed Godwits and a Ruff in flooded field at Eochar. 5 Black-tailed Godwits over Drimsdale this afternoon with a  Green Sandpiper this evening on Loch an Eilein.

Insects: Red Admiral feeding on Privet again at Drimsdale, South Uist. Still the odd Green-veined White around.

Other: Minke Whale, Bottle-nosed Dolphin and Porpoise seen from the Butt of Lewis.

South Uist: 8 Black-tailed Godwits and a Ruff on Loch an' t-Saile. Ruff on the sands off Hebridean Jewellery.
