30th June:

Lewis: A Crane was seen again in the Crossbost / Ranish area where it appears to be hanging around with a group of 12 Grey Herons.

South Uist: A moulting male Goosander is at Peninerine this morning.

Insects: 28 species of macro moth were trapped at Drimsdale last night including a Common Wainscot.

29th June:

Benbecula: A male White Wagtail is in Balivanich (airport beach).

South Uist: 10 Black-tailed Godwits flew over Howmore this evening and 3 Knot are at Stoneybridge. A Swift was at Rangehead this afternoon.

Insects: 2 Dark Green Fritillaries were in the SNH garden at Stilligarry this evening.

Other: A polecat-ferret was watched rescuing a youngster that had fallen in a cattle grid at Stoneybridge, South Uist this evening. Once out of the grid the adult dragged it down the road for at least 500 yards.

27th June:

North Uist: 3 Swifts flew south over Claddach Baleshare late morning. A Crossbill was at Ben Langass plantation today,

26th June:

Lewis: 5 Swifts were over Garrabost today.

Barra: A Swift was seen over Barra airport today.

Insects: A Silver Hook moth was trapped at South Glendale, South Uist last night; this is the first record for the Outer Hebrides. A Lempke's Gold Spot and Double Dart were also caught in South Glendale. A Drinker moth and Light Knot Grass were trapped last night at Ardivachar.

25th June:

South Uist: 2 Siskins are at North Loch Eynort. At least 20 Sand Martins are around Drimsdale this evening.

Marine Sightings: A Bottle-nosed Dolphin was seen to the south-west of Rubha Ardvule early afternoon.

24th June:

Benbecula: 4 female Red-necked Phalaropes were present at the usual site this morning. An adult male White Wagtail was in Balivanich.

Insects: 6-spot Burnet moths were seen near South Glendale today.

23rd June:

North Uist: A male Whinchat is singing at Langass, just past the stone circle. A Black-tailed Godwit is at Loch an Reivil.

Benbecula: The adult Night Heron spent all day (at least 8 am - 6.45 pm) in the same creak as yesterday.

Marine Sightings: A Basking Shark was seen feeding close inshore off the Braighe, Lewis yesterday evening.

22nd June:

Lewis: 19 Wood Pigeons were at Melbost farm today.

Benbecula: An adult Night Heron is at Liniclate. Originally seen in flight as it crossed the main road at the junction for Balivanich / Creagorry; it settled in the tidal creak to the east of the junction and was still there at 15:15.

Insects: A Marbled Coronet and the micro Pyla fusca were trapped at Ardivachar last night. Pempeliella dilutella was trapped in South Glendale last night; this is a new species for the Outer Hebrides.

21st June:

North Uist: 2, 1st summer Black-throated Divers and 6 Great Northern Divers were off Rubha Bhoisinis, Berneray.

South Uist: 2 Siskins are at North Loch Eynort. 6 Black-tailed Godwits flew south over Drimsdale this evening.

Insects: 2 Argent and Sable moths (Nationally Scarce B) were seen at North Loch Eynort this afternoon. The only other record(s) come from Lewis pre-1960.

20th June:

Lewis: A 1st summer Little Gull and 5 Sanderling are at Loch Barvas. A pair of Long-tailed Tits nesting in Willowglen, Stornoway have raised 9 young. A Whitethroat is still singing from the golf course area; a Chiffchaff is at Marybank and a Blackcap is singing in Willowglen.

Insects: Large Heath butterflies were seen at Claddach Baleshare, North Uist and Druidibeg NNR. 2 Wood Tigers were also seen at Druidibeg.

19th June:

North Uist: A brood of 6 Gadwall ducklings are on Loch Mor, Baleshare. A Great Skua nest containing eggs was found near Eaval yesterday and constitutes the first breeding record for the island.

18th June:

South Uist: The Whitethroat was still singing at North Loch Eynort and at least 1 Siskin is there. 3 Whimbrel are at Rubha Ardvule.

Insects: Large Heath butterflies were seen at Druidibeg and North Loch Eynort today. Other butterflies seen in South Uist include a single Meadow Brown, Small Heath, Common Blue, Red Admiral and Green-veined White. At least 30of the solitary bee, Colletes floralis were also seen at Howmore.

17th June:

South Uist: The male Whitethroat and Siskin are still at North Loch Eynort.

Barra: A Rose-coloured Starling was in the shrubs behind the Isle of Barra gift shop at Brevig this morning.

Marine Sightings: Around 10 Bottle-nosed Dolphins were off Rubha Ardvule early afternoon.

16th June:

Benbecula: 2 broods of 7 and 8 Gadwall ducklings are on Coot Loch along with another 10 adult Gadwall. 2 more Gadwall are on Loch Mor along with 136 Bar-tailed Godwits. A Hobby was seen at Gramsdale at 16:00.

South Uist: A grey Gyr was reported heading over Ardivachar towards North Bay this afternoon. A male Whinchat is singing at Druidibeg plantation this evening.

Insects: 2 Colletes floralis were seen on Torlum machair today.

15th June:

North Uist: A Black-tailed Godwit is on Loch nam Feithean and 2 were on Loch na Reivil, Hougharry today.

14th June:

Lewis: A juvenile Black Redstart was seen at Borve today and a Sand Martin is at Loch Barvas.

13th June:

North Uist: A Barnacle Goose is at Bayhead this evening.

South Uist: Two small colonies of Sand Martins are nesting on Drimsdale machair with 8 holes at one site and 3 at another. At least 10 Sand Martins were also in the area. This is the first known nesting attempt since the early 90's.

12th June:

Lewis: 2 Sandwich Terns are at Holm.

11th June:

South Uist: 3 Sand Martins were feeding at Drimsdale today.

9th June:

North Uist: A Spotted Flycatcher was at Carinish today.

South Uist: A Siskin and Whitethroat are still present at North Loch Eynort.

8th June:

Lewis: A Red-necked Phalarope was seen at Loch na Muilne, Arnol today.

7th June:

Lewis: 2 Cranes were in Crossbost today.

North Uist: A Whitethroat was singing at Langass today.

South Uist: At least 4 Sand Martins were at Drimsdale today and the Whitethroat is still singing at North Loch Eynort.

6th June:

St. Kilda: A male Snowy Owl, Long-eared Owl and Common Rosefinch are in Hirta today. There was also belated news of 2 Cranes there from May 29th.

Benbecula: 7 Black-tailed Godwits were on Coot Loch plus the following broods of ducklings: 2 Shoveler, 1 Gadwall, 1 Wigeon.

South Uist: 4 Sand Martins were in Drimsdale this morning.

5th June:

North Uist: An adult Glaucous Gull was seen in a colony of Herring Gulls in the Bayhead area.

South Uist: A Whitethroat and 2 Siskin are at North Loch Eynort. 2 Sand Martins were over Drimsdale this morning.

Insects: 29 Small Heath butterflies were seen around South Glendale today. 2 Scalloped Hazel were trapped at North Loch Eynort last night.

4th June:

North Uist: A Spotted Crake was heard on Vallay today.

South Uist: 11 Sand Martins were feeding over Loch an Eilein, Drimsdale this morning. 2 Grasshopper Warblers were singing at East Kilbride in the early hours of this morning and another was at Garrynamonie.

3rd June:

South Uist: 2 Sand Martins were over Loch an Eilein, Drimsdale this morning and a House Martin was there in the afternoon. A pair of Siskins and a Whitethroat are at North Loch Eynort.

2nd June:

Lewis: A Pacific Golden Plover was seen at Breanish.

North Uist: 5 Whimbrel were at Balranald today. A Redwing was at Hougharry this evening.

Insects: 3 Nut-tree Tussock moths were trapped at Druidibeg last night.

1st June:

Lewis: A male Collared Flycatcher is in the plantation, close to the junction at Garynahine.

Benbecula: A Little Stint is in Stinky Bay.

Barra: A Little Egret was at Earsary.
