31st March: Lewis: A male Blackcap, 4 Siskins and 4Bramblings are coming to feeders in Willowglen, Stornoway. North Uist: A Snow Bunting was at Carinish this morning. South Uist: 13 Goldeneye are on West Loch Ollay and 17 Scaup are on Loch Bee just west of the causeway. 30th March: Lewis: A lone Long-tailed Tit was seen and heard calling persistently in Lews Castle Grounds today. Benbecula: 17 Whooper Swans are on Loch Fada and 3 Scaup are on Coot Loch. South Uist: 17 Scaup are on Loch Bee, by the causeway. 29th March: North Uist: 2 Snow Buntings are on Sollas machair. A Wheatear was at Callernish and 2 were seen at Scolpaig. Around a 1,000 Barnacle Geese were at Balranald. 5 Goldfinch were at Geireann Mill. South Uist: A Goldcrest was in South Glendale today. Insects: A male Belted Beauty was seen at Ardivachar this morning.
28th March: Lewis: A hybrid Eurasion x Green-winged Teal was at Siadar beach today. A Snow Bunting was north of Bragar. A drake Pintail was at Brue. 31 White-fronted Geese were at Barvas and 9 were at Arnol. North Uist: A Wheatear is on the machair at Balemore and 2 were at Carinish. South Uist: 4 Wheatears were in South Glendale today.
27th March: Lewis: The Snowy Owl was seen at Borve again today. North Uist: A Hoopoe was at Carinish this afternoon. South Uist: A drake Green-winged Teal was on Loch Ardvule. A Wheatear was at Loch Carnan. 26th March: Lewis: 4 Bramblings are coming to feeders in Willowglen, Stornoway along with regular visits from 2 Goldfinch, 3 Siskins and a Long-tailed Tit. A Long-eared Owl was in a garden at Galson Farm around mid-day today. South Uist: Several Wheatears were seen this afternoon along the Loch Skipport road. 6 Goldfinch are at Drimsdale. A female Common Scoter flew north at Ardivachar this afternoon and at least 78 White-fronted Geese were on the machair at Kilaulay. 25th March: Lewis: 8 Great Skuas were seen over their breeding grounds at Gress today. Harris: A Chiffchaff is at Northton. 31 Slavonian Grebes and 112 Great Northern Divers in the Sound of Taransay. North Uist: 4 Snow Buntings are on the machair at Balemore. 5 Whooper Swans flew north out to sea between the Monachs and Balemore around mid-day today. 13 Goldfinch are at Carinish. Benbecula: A Pink-footed Goose is with Greylags at Torlum. South Uist: An Osprey was seen over the Range at 11:00 am. Insects: 2 Hebrew Characters were trapped at Druidibeg, South Uist last night.
23rd March: Benbecula: A male and 2 female Scaup are on Coot Loch. Insects: For anyone interested there is a National Ladybird Survey that is tracking the invasion of the Harlequin Ladybird as well as the distribution of all the UK's resident species. For more information please visit: www.ladybird-survey.org 22nd March: North Uist: 57 Whooper Swans flew north over Baleshare at 12:00 today. 21st March: Lewis: A 1st winter probable Kumlien's Gull and 1st winter Glaucous Gull were at Loch Barvas today. The Snowy Owl is still at Borve. 46 Greenland White-fronted Geese are at Barvas and 80 Barnacle Geese are at Port of Ness. 40 Knot are at Aignish. The first Great Skua was seen over the moorland to the west of Stornoway today. Benbecula: a single Snow Bunting was on Borve beach. South Uist: 36 Whooper Swans flew north over Askernish this evening. Marine Sightings: A dead Minke Whale is on the shore north-east of Aingnish. Insects: 2 male Belted Beauties were seen at the Howmore River mouth this afternoon. A Dotted Border and Hebrew Character were trapped at Druidibeg last night. A Dotted Border was also trapped at South Glendale.
20th March: South Uist: A 1st winter Glaucous Gull flew north along the shore at Drimsdale this morning. Insects: The first White-tailed Bumblebee of the year was seen today in Askernish, feeding on Crocus. The first 11-spot Ladybirds were seen at Drimsdale and Ardivachar. A Belted Beauty was seen at Creagorry, Benbecula. 19th March: South Uist: A 1st winter Glaucous Gull is at Ardivachat this morning. 132 Shelduck are at Balgarva and a single Goldfinch. 18th March: Lewis: The Snowy Owl is still at Borve and the 1st winter Glaucous Gull is at Loch Barvas. There are a pair of Mute Swans on Loch Stiapabhat and around 80 Barnacle Geese are at Ness. Benbecula: A male and 2 female Scaup are on Coot Loch. 17th March: South Uist: 2 Goldfinch are at Kildonan. 13 Whooper Swans flew west-north-west out to sea at Rubha Ardvule and 17 flew north at South Glendale this morning. 10 more Whooper Swans flew north over Drimsdale just before dark at 18:40.
16th March: Benbecula: 3 Scaup and 7 Gadwall are on Coot Loch, plus another Gadwall is on Loch Fada. South Uist: 14 Greenland White-fronted Geese are at Kilpheder. A female Pintail and 56 Whooper Swans are on Loch Hallan. 36 Whooper Swans flew north-west off Peninerine just after 1 pm and another 12 came in off the sea at Stoneybridge shortly after. 5 Goldfinch are at Loch Carnan. Insects: Moth trapping last night produced 18 Dotted Borders and 1 Hebrew Character at South Glendale and 1 Dotted Border at Drimsdale.
15th March: Lewis: The Snowy Owl is still at Borve and the 1st winter Glaucous Gull is around Barvas. There are also 77 Whooper Swans on Loch Barvas. 3 Bramblings, 2 Goldfinch and 2 Siskin are in Willowglen, Stornoway whilst 2 more Goldfinch are at Marybank. North Uist: The wintering Lapland Bunting is on the machair at Balemore. South Uist: 4 Goldfinch were at Ludag.
14th March: South Uist: 3 Goldfinch are at Loch Carnan. 13th March: Lewis: A 1st winter Glaucous Gull is at Loch Barvas. North Uist: The Lapland Bunting is still on Balemore machair.
12th March: Lewis: The Snowy Owl was seen at Borve again today. Benbecula: A male and 2 female Scaup on Coot Loch as well as 3 male and 2 female Gadwall today. South Uist: 8 Goldfinch and 21 Redwing are at Loch Carnan this morning. 11th March: Lewis: A Snowy Owl is in the plantation at Borve. 2 female and a male Scaup are on Loch Tiumpan. North Uist: The Little Egret is still on Loch na Reivil, Hougharry.
10th March: Lewis: A 1st winter Glaucous Gull is at Loch Barvas. 25 Fieldfares were seen on moorland near Stornoway today and a total of 52 Whooper Swans in three flocks have been seen passing over the town in the last two days. North Uist: The Little Egret is back on Loch na Reivil today and the female Pintail is still at Aird an Runair. 9th March: Lewis: A 1st winter Glaucous Gull is still around Barvas. Benbecula: A female Scaup is on Coot Loch. 8th March: North Uist: 34 Whooper Swans flew north over Balemore at 10:50 this morning. 6 Snow Buntings and 12 Goldfinch are on Balemore machair. South Uist: A Goldcrest was in South Glendale today and 3 Goldfinch were at Garrynamonie.
7th March: Lewis: A Goldfinch was in Balallan Harris: A male Surf Scoter, 123 Common Scoter, 116 Great Northern Divers and 26 Slavonian Grebes were in the Sound of Taransay today. A Dunnock was in Luskentrye village. South Uist: 5 White-fronted Geese flew north at Ardivachar this afternoon. Insects: Moths trapped last night include a Dotted Border at Drimsdale and 13 Dotted Borders and 2 Acleris hyemana at South Glendale.
6th March: North Uist: A Lapland Bunting and 3 Snow Buntings were on the machair at Balemore as well as an immature Brent Goose with around 500 Barnacle Geese. A pair of Pintail are on Loch a' Roe, Aird an Runair today. 5th March: Benbecula: A male Scaup is on Coot Loch along with a pair of Gadwall. South Uist: 7 Scaup are on Loch Bee: 2 just east of the causeway and 5 to the west. Insects: A Dotted Border moth was attracted to house lights at Drimsdale last night.
4th March: Lewis: The first 3 Lesser Black-backed Gulls of the year were found in a moorland gull colony today. North Uist: A 1st winter Glaucous Gull is at Balemore and an immature pale-bellied Brent Goose is amongst Barnacle Geese in the same area. Benbecula: 20 White-fronted Geese are by Loch Fada.
3rd March: Lewis: A total of 536 Ravens were seen leaving Stornoway rubbish dump this evening. There are also 2 Fieldfare in the area. 2nd March: Lewis: A male Scaup and female Sparrowhawk were seen at Loch Tiumpan today. 1st March: South Uist: 10 White-fronted Geese are at Kilpheder. 19 Scaup and 38 Goldeneye were seen on Loch Bee from the causeway. |
