28th February: South Uist: Male American Wigeon on the loch by Hebridean Jewellery. 17 Glaucous Gulls in the Balgarva / Gualan area.
27th February: South Uist: 1st winter Glaucous Gull in North Bay.
26th February: Lewis: Iceland Gull in Stornoway Harbour. South Uist: Male Green-winged Teal and male American Wigeon on the loch just south of Hebirean Jewellery. 24th February: Lewis: 2 x 1st winter and an adult Iceland Gull on Ness machair. 1st winter Glaucous Gull at the Butt. 45 Barnacle Geese and 4 Fieldfare at Lionel. An adult and 1st winter Iceland Gull in Stornoway Harbour. 3 Bramblings in Willow Glen, Stornoway. Benbecula: A 3rd winter Glaucous Gull flew south passed Culla Bay. 3 male Scaup and a pair of Gadwall were on Coot Loch. 23rd February: South Uist: 14 Glaucous Gulls in the general area of the Gualan. Adult Glaucous Gull at Stoneybridge and 1st winter at Ludaig. Male Green-winged Teal and male American Wigeon on the loch just to the south of Hebridean Jewellery. Barra: 45 pale-bellied Brent Geese along Traigh Mor. In the Sound of Barra (from the ferry): 2 Common Scoter, 8 Slavonian Grebes, 28 Black-throated Divers, 45 Great Northern Divers, 550 Eider and 11 Long-tailed Ducks.
22nd February: Lewis: 21 White-fronted Geese at Loch na Muilne. Adult Iceland Gull at Arnol and a 1st winter at Loch Barvas. Benbecula: 33 White-fronted Geese and a pair of Gadwall on Loch Mor and single Barnacle Goose with Greylags at Torlum. Report of a 1st winter male Lesser Scaup on Loch Dun Mhurchaidh, a couple of miles east of Balivanich. Male Scaup on Coot Loch. South Uist: The Long-billed Dowitcher was reported in flight along the west side of Loch Bee. 21 White-fronted Geese and Pink-footed Goose at Boisdale. 1st winter Glaucous Gull at Kilpheder. 2nd winter Glaucous Gull Eochar. 16 Glaucous Gulls and a 1st yr Iceland Gull around the Gualan. 1st yr Iceland Gull at Ormiclate. Coot on Loch Tornish and a Pink-footed Goose nearby. Insects: Dotted Border seen in Grenitote, North Uist yesterday.
21st February: North Uist: 1st winter Glaucous Gull and 1st winter Iceland Gull at Loch Paible. 1st winter Iceland Gull at Ardheisker and one at Claddach Kyles. Also a flock of 20 Goldfinch near Loch Paible. 100 Snow Buntings on Sollas machair. South Uist: Water Rail at Bornish and one at Carnan. Other: Frank Stark reports that there is masses of frog spawn on Lewis. 20th February: Lewis: 2 x 1st winter Glaucous Gulls at Loch Barvas. A Blackcap is apparently wintering in South Dell. South Uist: immature Glaucous Gull at Balgarva. 19th February: Harris: An immature Glaucous Gull flew north passed Huisinis. North Uist: 10 Fieldfare at Clachan an Luib. a single Snow Bunting on Borve machair, Berneray. 18 Common Scoter and 3 Porpoise off the north-west side of Berneray in the Sound of Pabbay.
18th February: Lewis: A single Snow Bunting at Balallan. Glaucous Gull and Iceland Gull in Stornoway. 17th February: South Uist: 1st winter Glaucous Gull on the Range at Eochar. 1st winter Glaucous Gull at Stoneybridge. Coot on Loch Tornish. 65 Snow Buntings on the machair at Askernish. Cetaceans: A fresh, dead White-sided Dolphin has been washed up on the beach at Kyles Paible, North Uist. The marks along the right flank are teeth marks from a younger dolphin apparently and not that of a net. There is also a freshly dead Bottle-nosed Dolphin at South Glendale, South Uist.
16th February: Lewis: 1st winter Kumlien's Gull in Stornoway Harbour. Harris: A Grey Wagtail was seen at Scaladal today. Benbecula: Pink-footed Goose at Griminish. South Uist: 2 Long-eared Owls at North Loch Eynort.
15th February: Lewis: 22 Goldeneye Loch Earsay, Brue. North Uist: Adult Glaucous Gull at Grenitote. Insects: A fresh Dotted Border moth was found in a puddle in Ben Risary plantation, North Uist today. Another Dotted Border was reported inside a house in Leurbost, Lewis.
14th February: Lewis: An adult, a 3rd yr and 2 x 1st winter Iceland Gulls in Stornoway Harbour. Also a 1st winter Glaucous Gull and 1st winter Kumliens Gull.
13th February: South Uist: The Coot is still on Loch Tornish. At least 12 Glaucous Gulls were along the Gualan peninsula.
12th February: Lewis: White-billed Diver off Skigersta this afternoon. 1st winter Glaucous Gull at Barvas. 1st winter and adult Iceland Gull at Steinish (end of Cross Street) and 2 Siskin in Anderson Road, Stronoway. South Uist: 1st winter Glaucous Gull on the flood pools at LA2, West Gerinish. The yellow tagged sea eagle at Ormiclate yesterday was ringed as a nestling on Mull in 2006. 11th February: Lewis: A late report of a Snowy Owl from Aird Uig, near Gallan Head from 8th February. North Uist: 2 Red-necked Grebes reported today to the east of Berneray. Single Pink-footed Goose and 400 Barnacle Geese at Grenitote. South Uist: Male Green-winged Teal on Loch Tornish; also a Coot there. Nearby the leucistic Linnet (also seen at Howmore and Ardivachar during the last month) was feeding at the arable stacks. 13 Glaucous Gulls along the Gualan peninsula.
10th February: Lewis: Glaucous Gulls were seen at Siadar and Loch Barvas, plus an Iceland Gull at the latter site. Benbecula: 33 White-fronted Geese on Loch Mor. South Uist: 1st winter Iceland Gull at Aird Micheal. 2 Fieldfare at West Gerinish and a Water Rail at Carnan. The red-tagged White-tailed Eagle below was ringed as a nestling in west Harris.
9th February: Lewis: 1st winter Iceland Gull over Stornoway at lunch time. Harris: 5 Surf Scoters (3 male and 2 female) in the Sound of Taransay. 7 Feildfare in Leverburgh. South Uist: Long-billed Dowitcher feeding on the pools on the Range at West Gerinish. 21 White-fronted Geese and a single Pink-footed Goose at Boisdale.
8th February: Lewis: 442 Great Northern Divers, 358 Long-tailed Ducks, 763 Eider and 100 Common Scoter in Broad Bay. Grey Plover at Gress. 79 Tufted Duck and 5 Scaup on Loch Branahuie.17 Fieldfare just east of Stornoway. 3rd Calendar year Iceland Gull in Stornoway Harbour and a Grey Wagtail at Bayhead. South Uist: 7 Glaucous Gulls in the Balgarva / Gualan area. 2 x 1st winter Glaucous Gulls in North Bay. Fieldfare at North Bay and another at Howmore.
7th February: Lewis: 2 adult Iceland Gulls in Stornway Harbour. Harris: 1st winter Glaucous Gull at Leverburgh. Fieldfare at Scarista. Benbecula: adult Glaucous Gull at Gramsdale.1st winter Iceland Gull plus a 1st winter and adult Glaucous Gull on Bornish machair. Also a Pink-footed Goose amongst the Greylags at Bornish. South Uist: 7 Fieldfare near Ardmore and 1 at Drimsdale. 6th February: Lewis: 4 Long-tailed Tits in the Castle Grounds, Stornoway, close to Willowglen. South Uist: 1st winter Glaucous Gull in North Bay. 3 Fieldfare in South Glendale. The leucisitic (mostly white) Linnet that was last seen at Howmore / Peninerine in early January was at Ardivachar today.
5th February: Benbecula: 17 Shoveler were on Coot Loch. South Uist: A Jackdaw was seen flying north at Askernish this morning. 7 Fieldfare were by the main road at Ormiclate. Glaucous Gulls seen today including the following: a 1st winter at Ardmore - over the main road; 2nd winter at Kilaulay; 9 (various ages) and 1st winter Iceland Gull around the Gualan early afternoon; 2 x 1st winters at Ardivachar / North Bay may have been two from the Gualan. A 1st winter at West Gerinish; 1st winter at Peninerine; 1st winter at Kilbride and a 1st winter and adult at Smerclate. A Jackdaw was seen flying north at Askernish this morning.
4thFebruary: South Uist: adult Glaucous Gull at Ardvule / Bornish. A Jackdaw briefly at South Glendale this morning. 3rd February: Benbecula: 14 Snow Buntings at Stinky Bay. 2nd February: North Uist: The wintering Spotted Redshank was seen at Claddach Vallay this morning. 20 Crossbills were in Ben Risary plantation. South Uist: 12 Glaucous Gulls were on the Gualan around the remains of the whale.
1st February: Benbecula: 1st winter Glaucous Gull Creagorry. South Uist: 14 Glaucous Gulls (2 x adults, 3rd winter, 2 x 2nd winter and 9 x 1st winters) around the whale carcass on the Gualan. Adult Glaucous Gull at West Gerinish, 1st winter at Verran Island and 2 x 1st winters at Ardvule. Barra: 2 Glaucous Gull (1st winter and 2nd winter), 54 pale-bellied Brent Geese, 28 Barnacle Geese and 16 Snow Buntings at Eoligarry. An adult Glaucous Gull and 70 Barnacle Geese at Allasdale. Male Scaup was on Loch Tangusdale. Fieldfare at North Bay. Insects: A bumblebee species was seen in Lew's Castle Grounds, Stornoway today.
