31st May:

Lewis: A Red Kite was seen over Loch na Muilne, Arnol today heading towards Brue. The Little Egret is still at Loch Stiapabhat. 2 Sandwich Terns were at Tong this evening.

North Uist: An Iceland Gull was seen at Bayhead before flying off to the fields at the southern end of the Committee Road. 2 Sand Martins flew past Hougharry.

South Uist: A Spotted Flycatcher was at Askernish. A Wood Pigeon and 3 Common Redpolls were at Bornish.

Insects: Red Admirals were noted at Balivanich, Creagorry, Bornish, Ardivachar and Aird an Runair; a Painted Lady was also noted at the latter site.

30th May:

Lewis: The Little Egret is on Loch Stiapabhat.

South Uist: Whitethroats are singing at North Loch Eynort and Lochboisdale. 3 Sand Martins are at Daliburgh. A Chiffchaff and Common Redpoll were at Snishival.

29th May:

Lewis: The Little Egret is still on Loch Stiapabhat today.

Benbecula: A Little Stint was in Stinky Bay today.

South Uist: Whitethroats were heard singing at North Loch Eynort and at Ludag. An adult male Ruff was at Loch Thallan.

28th May:

Lewis: A Little Egret is on Loch Stiapabhat. Pairs of House Martins are at Brue, Calbost and Tiumpan. 17 Long-tailed Ducks are still at Loch Branahuie and a Pink-footed Goose is at Mangersta.

North Uist: A Turtle Dove was at Balemartin yesterday.

Benbecula: The 1st yr Glaucous Gull is at Gramsdale.

South Uist: A Common Redpoll is at Howbeg. 2 Brent Geese were at Loch Ardvule this morning.

Marine Sightings: A Basking Shark was off Aird an Runair.

26th May:

North Uist: A Chiffchaff is singing at Kallin, Grimsay.

South Uist: The Little Stint is still at Rubha Ardvule. A Brent Goose was at Ardivachar. A male Whitethroat and Siskin are at North Loch Eynort.

25th May:

Harris: 3 Black-tailed Godwits were at Northton. A Whinchat is at Scarista.

North Uist: A Pomarine Skua was reported off Aird an Runair early morning. 8 Black-tailed Godwits and 13 Whooper Swans were on Loch Sandary.

South Uist: The Black Stork was reported from Lochboisdale. A Whitethroat was singing at North Loch Eynort.

Insects: Blue-tailed Damselflies, Large Red Damselfly and Four-spotted Chaser were all seen at North Loch Eynort this afternoon.

24th May:

North Uist: The Black Stork was reported from near Ahmore today around mid-day. A Chiffchaff is singing in Sollas. 12 Whooper Swans and 8 Black-tailed Godwits are on Loch Sandary. The Whooper Swans nesting at Balranald have hatched 6 cygnets and can be seen on Loch nam Feithean.

Benbecula: The 1st yr Glaucous Gull was at Gramsdale again today.

South Uist: An adult Little Stint is at Ardvule and 2 Common Redpolls are at Bornish.

23rd May:

North Uist: The Black Stork was seen again this afternoon on Berneray, over Loch Brusda, heading for Loch Borve where it was also seen before heading back north. A Sand Martin was also over Loch Brusda this morning. 8 Black-tailed Godwits and 11 Whooper Swans are on Loch Sandary. A House Martin was seen near Trumisgarry and a Whitethroat was at Clachan Farm.

Benbecula: The 1st yr Glaucous Gull was at Gramsdale this morning.

South Uist: A Great Snipe was by Loch Ardvule this morning although elusive and not seen since early morning. A Redwing was heard singing at Carnan today.

Marine Sightings: 8 Bottle-nosed Dolphins were seen to the west and south of Orosay Island, South Uist today.

22nd May:

Lewis: A Dotterel is with a handful of Golden Plovers behind Ness F.C. There is a Whitethroat at Port of Ness and a Chiffchaff at the Butt of Lewis. 5 singing Whitethroats, 2 Spotted Flycatchers and 5 singing Blackcaps are in or around Lews Castle Grounds today. An immature Glaucous Gull is at Arnol and the Turtle Dove is still in Bragar.

North Uist: A belated report of the Black Stork from Loch Borve, Berneray this morning.

Benbecula: A 1st yr Glaucous Gull was at Gramsdale this morning before flying off south-eastwards.

South Uist: A Brambling is singing at Druidibeg plantation this evening. 10 Sand Martins are hanging around Drimsdale / Loch Stilligarry. A Spotted Flycatcher was at Kildonan museum and another was in South Glendale along with a Whitethroat. A Whitethroat is still singing at North Loch Eynort and a Grasshopper Warbler is singing at Smerclate. 6 Black-tailed Godwits are at Loch Hallan. A Turtle Dove  was seen near Ardivachar.

Insects: Two new species of macro moths have been trapped in South Uist in the last few days; a Currant Pug last Wednesday and a Nut-tree Tussock last night at Druidibeg. A Currant Pug was also caught last night at Gramsdale, Benbecula. A Cinnibar moth was trapped in South Glendale (2nd record) and a Herald was caught at North Loch Eynort. 11 Small Heaths were seen around South Glendale today. A Great Yellow Bumblebee was seen on Borve Hill, Berneray.

Marine Sightings: A Basking Shark was seen off Ardivachar.

21st May:

North Uist: A Spotted Flycatcher is at Clachan Farm. 2 Black-tailed Godwits are on Loch Bhrusda, Berneray.

Benbecula: A Glaucous Gull was seen at Stinky Bay. The Northern Eider was seen in Stinky Bay again this evening.

South Uist: A Wood Pigeon was at Grogarry Lodge.

20th May:

Lewis: A 2nd cal yr Iceland Gull and 2 Pink-footed Geese were at Gress today. A Turtle Dove was at Bragar. 2 Barnacle Geese and a Black-tailed Godwit are at Loch Stiapabhat. A House Martin and 210 Long-tailed Ducks are on Loch Branahuie. 12 Common Scoters are in Broad Bay off Melbost. 2 Whitethroats and a Grasshopper Warbler are singing in the Castle Grounds and a Spotted Flycatcher was also seen.

Benbecula: The Northern Eider was in Stinky Bay again this afternoon around 5 pm. A 1st yr Glaucous Gull was at Gramsdale. A Wryneck was reported from Hacklet today.

South Uist: A Spotted Flycatcher is in South Glendale.

Insects: 122 moths and 19 species of macro moths were trapped at South Glendale last night including 2 Sweet Gale, 2 Light Knot Grass and 2 Grey Scalloped Bar.

19th May:

South Uist: A Tree Sparrow was in South Glendale this morning and a Spotted Flycatcher was at North Loch Eynort. A Sand Martin was at Loch an Eilein, Drimsdale this evening.

18th May:

North Uist: A Black Stork was seen at Clachan Farm this morning before heading north around 09:10 across the Sound of Harris where it was relocated at Northton, Harris. A Black-tailed Godwit was at Loch Sandary.

South Uist: A Whitethroat was in South Glendale and a Grasshopper Warbler was at Smerclate. A House Martin was seen at Rubha Ardvule.

17th May:

North Uist: A White-billed Diver flew past Aird an Runair this morning.

South Uist: A male Whitethroat was singing at North Loch Eynort this morning and a House Martin flew through this evening. A Black-tailed Godwit is on the machair adjacent to Loch Hallan. A Redwing was in South Glendale today.

Insects: Small Heath butterflies were seen at South Glendale and Lochboisdale today.

16th May:

Lewis: The Glaucous Gull is still at Loch Barvas. A Spotted Flycatcher, 2 Whitethroats, 3 Chiffchaffs and 4 Blackcaps were all heard singing in the Castle Grounds. 13 Black-tailed Godwits and several hundred Long-tailed Ducks are at Loch Branahuie.

North Uist: 4 Long-tailed Skuas and 3 Pomarine Skuas past Aird an Runair this morning. 3 Dotterel are at Balranald. A Chiffchaff is at Callernish. 15 Whimbrel flew north over Hougharry. A pair of Whooper Swans were seen from the Committee Road, 6 are on Loch Sandary and a pair are nesting on Loch Scaraidh.

Benbecula: A Glaucous Gull was seen on Torlum machair this evening.

South Uist: 22 Whimbrel were at Ardivachar this afternoon.

Insects: Powdered Quakers were trapped at Askernish and South Glendale, South Uist last night.

15th May:

Lewis: An American Wigeon, 5 Whooper Swans and 7 Black-tailed Godwits are at Loch Stiapabhat. A House Martin was at the Butt of Lewis and 2 Common Scoters flew past.

North Uist: 17 Long-tailed Skuas and around 8 Pomarine Skuas past Aird an Runair this morning. 3 Dotterel are at Balranald.

South Uist: 3 Brent Geese and a Black-tailed Godwit are at Smerclate. 4 Dotterel were still at West Gerinish today

Insects: A Scalloped Hazel, Pebble Prominent, Double-striped Pug and 5 Golden-rod Pug, amongst others were trapped at North Loch Eynort last night.

14th May:

Lewis: The American Wigeon is on Loch Stiapabhat and a Glaucous Gull is at Bragar. A Curlew Sandpiper was at Tong this evening with around 90 Dunlin.

South Uist: 10 Sand Martins are at Loch Stilligarry.

13th May:

Lewis: The American Wigeon is still on Loch Stiapabhat. The following Knot were seen today: 100 at Aignish, 200 at Back, 30 at Tong, 14 at Bragar and 20 at Barvas.

South Uist: 4 Dotterel are still on the Range at West Gerinish and the Little Stint was at Ardivachar. An adult Iceland Gull was seen near Stoneybridge school. 15 Brent Geese flew north past Ardvule this morning.

12th May:

Lewis: The drake American Wigeon is on Loch Stiapabhat.

North Uist: 20 Whimbrel flew north over Langass this afternoon.

Benbecula: The Northern Eider was seen again in Stinky Bay this morning. 22 Swallows were at Coot Loch this evening.

South Uist: The American Golden Plover and 4 Dotterel are still on the Range at West Gerinish. The Little Stint was seen again at Ardivachar.

11th May:

Lewis: The American Wigeon is still on Loch Stiapabhat and the Glaucous Gull is at Loch Barvas. The Snowy Owl was reported from Mangersta.

Benbecula: The Northern (borealis) Eider is in Stinky Bay.

South Uist: An American Golden Plover and 4 Dotterel were on the Range at West Gerinish this morning.

10th May:

Lewis: The drake American Wigeon is on Loch Stiapabhat and Glaucous Gulls were seen at the Butt of Lewis and Loch Barvas.

North Uist: 3 Black-tailed Godwits were at Loch Sandary. 5 Brent Geese were at Balranald.

South Uist: A Little Stint was caught and ringed at Ardivachar this afternoon. 3 Brent Geese were at Smerclate. A Siskin was in South Glendale. A satellite tagged immature Golden Eagle flew north over Drimsdale around 8:30 this evening.

9th May:

North Uist: 2 Redwings were at Balranald.

South Uist: 4 Dotterel are on the Range at West Gerinish. A Siskin was in South Glendale.

8th May:

Lewis: The American Wigeon is still on Loch Stiapabhat today. A Grasshopper Warbler, Whitethroat, 6 Blackcaps and 2 Chiffchaffs are singing in Lews Castle Grounds; plus 7 Siskins were also seen. 420 Long-tailed Ducks are on Loch Branahuie.

North Uist: A Wood Sandpiper, Black-tailed Godwit and 2 Pink-footed Geese are at Loch Sandary. A 2nd yr Iceland Gull was at Balranald. A Sand Martin was seen at Hougharry. A Chiffchaff was singing in Lochmaddy. A Chiffchaff, Siskin and Redwing were at Langass.

7th May:

Lewis: An American Wigeon is on Loch Stiapabhat and a Snow Bunting is at the Butt of Liews.

South Uist: A Brent Goose, 6 Black-tailed Godwits were at Rubha Ardvule and a Wood Pigeon came in off the sea to the west today. A Redwing was at Grogarry. A Redwing, 2 Siskins and a Chiffchaff were at North Loch Eynort. Lots of Whimbrel, White Wagtails and Wheatears still around.

Marine Sightings: Around 10 Bottle-nosed Dolphins were feeding to the south of Rubha Ardvule this afternoon.

6th May:

Lots of White Wagtails and Greenland Wheatears are throughout the islands at the moment.

Lewis: 5 Wood Pigeons are in Glen Valtos. 6 Siskins have been in Willowglen, Stornoway.

North Uist: A male Snowy Owl was at Aird an Runair today. Also there; 54 Brent Geese and 15 - 20 Whimbel flew north around mid-day, 3 White-fronted Geese flew north just before and 10 Whimbrel were present. A Willow Warbler was also amongst the rocks at the south-west end of the headland. 32 Whimbrel and 4 Gadwall are on Loch Sandary. 13 Whimbrel were at Clachan. 3 Wood Pigeons were in Ben Risary plantation. A rather sickly looking Barnacle Goose is at Balranald.

South Uist: A pair of Pintail are on Loch an' t-Saile. 15 Whimbrel were at Snishival and 7 were at Peninerine. At least 50 White Wagtails were between Howmore and Peninerine. A Sand Martin was at Loch na Liana-salaith, Snishival today.

Insects: The first V-Pug for the Outer Hebrides was trapped at North Loch Eynort last night.

5th May:

Lewis: 12 Black-tailed Godwits are on Loch Stiapabhat. 4 Whimbrel and a White Wagtail were at the Butt of Lewis. 9 Gadwall and 2 Barnacle Geese are at Brue. A female Goosander is at Loch Ordais. 2 Siskins were at Sandwick and a Chiffchaff was in the Castle Grounds, Stornoway. 103 Long-tailed Ducks are still on Loch Branahuie.

Benbecula: 6 Black-tailed Godwits were just south of Balivanich. 12 Pink-footed Geese were at Nunton. A Pink-footed Goose and 6 Black-tailed Godwits were at Coot Loch, plus around 20 Knot flew over heading north. Around 25 Whimbrel were on Borve / Torlum machair along with good numbers of White Wagtails and Wheatears. 2 Sedge Warbler were singing at Loch Bailfinlay.

South Uist: A pair of Scaup were still on Loch an Eilein today. A pair of Pintail were on Loch an' t-Saile. Around 20 Knot were at Ardivachar. 25 Brent Geese were on the South Ford this morning before heading off north. 64 Brent Geese, 53 Knot and 21 White Wagtails are at Rubha Ardvule. A Pink-footed Goose is on Loch Bornish. A Sedge Warbler was singing at Eochar. 5 Pink-footed Geese are at the north end of the Range.

4th May:

North Uist: 214 Arctic Terns flew north at Aird an Runair this morning.

Benbecula: 9 Black-tailed Godwits and a female Pintail are at Coot Loch. A Northern (borealis) Eider was seen in Stinky Bay today.

South Uist: 4 Scaup (2 pairs) are on Loch an Eilein, Drimsdale. A Chiffchaff is singing at Grogarry Lodge. 3 Siskins are in South Glendale and a Redwing is at Drimsdale.

Insects: The Herald was trapped last night at Druidibeg plantation.

3rd May:

Lewis: A Corncrake and Cuckoo have been seen in Garrabost in the last couple of days.

Benbecula: 40 White Wagtails and 16 Whimbrel along the coast at Torlum / Borve this afternoon. The drake Garganey was still on Coot Loch this morning.

South Uist: A Grasshopper Warbler and Chiffchaff are singing at North Loch Eynort.

Marine Sightings: 4 Killer Whales were seen heading north past Skigersta and Port of Ness at 17:20 and 17:30 respectively.

2nd May:

Lewis: A Grasshopper Warbler was singing in Leurbost at dusk last night.

Benbecula: A pair of Pintail are on Loch Mor. A male Garganey, 4 Black-tailed Godwits and a Pink-footed Goose are on Coot Loch. 35 White Wagtails and 16 Whimbrel are on Torlum machair.

South Uist: 73 Brent Geese, a White-fronted Goose, 20 Whimbrel, 5 Black-tailed Godwits, 2 Sandwich Terns and 29 White Wagtails were at Ardvule today. 3 Goldfinch and a Siskin are in South Glendale.

1st May:

Lewis: The 1st yr Glaucous Gull is at Loch Barvas; a 1st yr is at Galson and an adult is at the Butt of Lewis. 4 skeins of Pink-footed Geese were seen heading north-west over Lewis totalling around 400 birds. 42 Pink-footed Geese were in a field at South Dell. 7 Black-tailed Godwits are at Brue and 11 Barnacle Geese are at Barvas.

Benbecula: A Stock Dove was seen in flight from Creagorry heading south across the South Ford and over Eochar school this morning.

South Uist: Lots of White Wagtails around today with over 25 at Ardivachar and at least 70 at Ardvule. 3 Black-tailed Godwits, at least 10 Whimbrel and 55+ Brent Geese are at Rubha Ardvule.

Insects: 2 Water Carpets, 2 Double-striped Pugs were trapped at Loch Eynort last night.
