Lewis: Curlew Sandpiper Loch Stiapavat.

Lewis: 2 Grasshopper Warblers and a male Whitethroat in Castle Grounds.

12th May

Lewis: 2 Grasshopper Warblers, 2 Whitethroats and 2 Spotted Flycatchers Castle Grounds, Stornoway.

11th May

Lewis: male Garganey, pair of Gadwall and Whooper Swan Loch Stiapavat. Grasshopper Warbler and Whitethroat singing Castle Grounds, plus Crossbill flew over.

10th May

Sula Sgeir: Black-browed Albatross

South Uist: Tree Sparrow South Glendale. Sand Martin Daliburgh. Imm Glaucous Gull Ardivachar.

Benbecula: 2 male Garganey Loch Mor.

9th May

Sula Sgeir: Black-browed Albatross and Long-tailed Skua. Long-tailed Skua also seen North Rona.

South Uist: 2 Wood Pigeons Grogarry Lodge.

Moths and butterflies: 15 Ruddy Highflyers, 1 Clouded Drab and 1 Grey Scalloped Bar trapped at Druidibeg Plantation over night. Pebble Prominent and Red Chestnut at Nunton. White Ermine, Puss Moth, knot Grass and 5 Red Chestnuts at Carnan (P. Boyer)

Benbecula: Holy Grass can be found growing by the roadside just south of Nunton (in the dip). This is a Red Data Book species.

8th May

Sula Sgeir: Black-browed Albatross

North Uist: Cananda Goose with Barnacles at Callernish.

South Uist: Black-tailed Godwit Howmore River. Wood Pigeon North Loch Eynort

7th May

Benbecula: 2nd summer Laughing Gull in newly harrowed field just north of Coot Loch this evening.

North Uist: passed Aird an Runair this morning between 7:20 and 10:30: 5 Long-tailed Skuas, 29 Pomarine Skuas, 4 Bonxies and 10 Arctic Skuas. Also Black-throated Diver and 87 Kittiwakes.

Lewis: Ruff at Bru. 2 Spotted Flycatchers, Grasshopper Warbler and Whitethroat in the Castle Grounds, Stornoway. 5 Brent geese Braighe Road.

St. Kilda: Gadwall, Brent Goose, Common Scoter, Iceland Gull and Chiffchaff.

6th May

North Uist: passed Aird an Runair this morning: ad. summer plumage White-billed Diver (10:15 am); 74 Pomarine Skuas, 12 Long-tailed Skuas, 28 Great Skuas, 4 Arctic Skuas, 500+ Arctic Terns, 200+ Kittiwake and 2 Puffins.

Totals for the day (B Rabbits 6:30 - 18:30): 167 Pomarine Skuas, 19 Long-tailed Skua, 22 Arctic Skuas, 46 Bonxies, 900 Arctic Terns. Male and female Garganey near Balranald visitor centre.

South Uist: passed Ardvule this morning 1 Long-tailed Skua, 42 Pomarine Skuas, 21 Great Skuas and 14 Arctic Skuas.

Lewis: passed Mangersta in a 6 hour watch; 4 Long-tailed Skuas, 33+ Pomarine Skuas, 20+ Arctic Skuas, 21 Great Skuas. 9 Pomarine Skuas past Bru. 2 x 1st yr Iceland Gulls, 3 Black-tailed Godwits and 38 Pink-footed Geese Loch Stiapavat.

Harris: Hawfinch Ardhasaig

St. Kilda: Common Scoter, Gadwall, 1 Tree Sparrow.

5th May

St. Kilda: male Common Scoter, Brent Goose, Gadwall, House Martin.

4th May

St. Kilda: Hawfinch, 2 Tree Sparrows, Brent Goose.

Lewis: White-billed Diver Skigersta. 1st yr Iceland Gull and 45 Whimbrel Loch Barvas.

Benbecula: male Garganey Loch Fada.

Barra: male Whitethroat singing North Bay. 4 Tree Sparrows just east of Castle Bay. In Castle Bay a Chaffinch feeding chicks at least a few days old.

Belted Beauty's a remarkable 207 females and 4 males were located along the fence posts running through the machair on Vatersay. An unusually marked male was also seen (see photo).

3rd May

Vatersay: male Sub-alpine Warbler at the north end of the beach running along the east side of the island from the village.

South Uist: 3 siskin at North Loch Eynort.

Benbecula: male Garganey on Loch Mor. 1st yr Glaucous Gull Stinky Bay

Insects: Peacock butterfly at South Glendale again today. Red Admiral at Rueval. At least 6 Large Red Damselflies and an early Four-spotted Chaser at Loch Carnan. A cold night for moths last night although a knotgrass was at Nunton this morning.

2nd May

South Uist: Chiffchaff at Ardvule. Female Blackcap at Howmore (behind the bike shop). Male Garganey at Bornish and Carrion Crow flew over machair

Benbecula: Lapwing with freshly hatched chicks on Torlum machair.

Peacock Butterfly South Glendale, South Uist today.

Otter West Loch Ollay, South Uist around mid-day today.

1st May

St. Kilda: 2 Tree Sparrows and a probable Hawfinch

Lewis: White-billed Diver Skigersta and Tolsta

North Uist: 40 Pink-footed Geese north over Scolpaig around mid-day.

Benbecula: 2 female Dotterel Liniclate / Torlum machair, plus 15 Whimbrel.

Moths and Butterflies: The migrant moth, Dark Sword Grass was attracted to light at both Nunton and Carnan last night. Other moths included Flame Carpet and Angle Shades at Carnan (P. Boyer) Common Carpet and Pebble Prominent at Nunton. Lots of Belted Beauties on Torlum / Borve machair with at least 10 males this evening.
